Collective Social Responsibility in Bergen Basketball: More Girls Into the Game

Frøya, 17 September 2025 – The mutually agreed collective social responsibility took center court at the Bergen basketball BLNO kick-off. The dedicated BLNO male role models showed up to support the ladies! With passion and commitment for children and youth, just days before the season opening, the BLNO ladies and men came together fully committed to being great role models on and off the court this season. Placing inclusion, equality, and collective social responsibility at the center of the court.

In a true show of unity for a much greater cause than basketball, all BLNO clubs in Bergen—Fyllingen Lions, Gimle, Frøya, and Ulriken Eagles are committing themselves to a shared mission: to use basketball as a platform for belonging and to bring more girls into basketball by 2028. This alliance reflects the spirit of Meteva Sport og Helse’s initiative, NextGen Neighbor Network (NNN), while using sport as a vehicle for change and growth.

This new season marks a milestone: Frøya has introduced a new women’s team into the BLNO league. A powerful group photo captured a special  moment: Frøya’s women’s team flanked by supportive coaches from every BLNO club, NBBF President, Jan Hendrik Parmann, Meteva Sport og Helse Founder, Louise Mohn, coaches, players from all BLNO clubs, and role models such as Ulriken Eagles coach Durell Sanford and his wife Ingvild, both of whom have been instrumental advocates for women’s basketball in Norway.

The eight clubs within Basketakademiet have committed to ensuring that throughout the BLNO season, children from different teams will be spotlighted. No matter a child’s background, skill level, or club affiliation, they will have the chance to experience basketball up close and build lasting relationships with BLNO players and role models.

The initiative also symbolizes how sport can unify communities, inspire young girls to dream big, and highlight role models who embody inclusion and equality. The support for Frøya’s women’s team is a powerful step in signaling to every young girl in Bergen that the court belongs to them too.

By standing together and cheering together, we celebrate our BLNO role models, women’s basketball, inclusivity, and that all children - especially our young girls have a place in sports. Through collective responsibility, anything is possible!
